SBIR 2025 Conference Connected Global Experts on the Art of the Future

The 30th Jubilee Symposium on Biology and Immunology of Reproduction (SBIR 2025) took place from October 5–7, 2025, in the elegant setting of Liblice Castle. This traditional interdisciplinary conference brings together experts from the fields of reproductive biology, immunology, medicine, and related sciences. One of the main organizers of this year’s edition was Assoc. Prof. Kateřina Komrsková ( Institute of Biotechnology, Czech Academy of Sciences), head of a research group within the ART of the Future project under the Strategy AV21 programme, under whose auspices the conference was held.
This year’s meeting confirmed the strong tradition and international reputation of SBIR. A total of 73 participants from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Mexico, Australia, Poland, and Germany attended the event. The program offered a wide range of topics reflecting current challenges in reproductive medicine and biology.
Among the highlights were lectures by Prof. Jean Pierre Allam from the University Hospital Bonn, who discussed inflammation of the male reproductive tract and its significance for female fertility, Dr. Deidre Mattiske from the University of Melbourne, who addressed the impacts of environmental pollutants on reproductive health, and Dr. hab. eng. Zofia E. Madeja from Poland, who presented her research on the role of mitochondria in shaping embryonic developmental competence—from oocyte maturation to the first cleavage division.
The conference also featured flash talks, poster sessions, and a social evening, providing opportunities for informal knowledge exchange and networking.
As in previous years, great emphasis was placed on supporting young scientists. Students and PhD candidates took part in the Young Scientist Competition, where prizes were awarded in the categories of Best Poster, Best Oral Presentation, and Best Flash Talk, thanks to the support of the conference’s partners and sponsors.
The event also covered topics closely aligned with the ART of the Future programme of Strategy AV21, such as the effects of environmental factors on fertility and the development of modern biotechnological approaches in reproductive medicine.
Several presentations also featured research co-funded by the ART of the Future project.
The next SBIR 2026 conference will once again take place at Liblice Castle, on October 4–6, 2026.
