ART Bridges Law and Medicine: Workshop on Assisted Reproduction in the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights
15. 12. 2025

On 11 December 2025, an expert workshop entitled Assisted Reproduction in the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights took place at the Institute of State and Law of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague and was organised under the auspices of the ART – Future of Assisted Reproduction project (Strategy AV21).
The workshop was attended by approximately 20 participants, who heard presentations by Tomáš Doležal and Ivo Smrž (Institute of State and Law CAS). The lectures focused on an analysis of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in the field of assisted reproduction and on the Court’s fundamental approaches to these issues. The programme also included a lively expert discussion addressing the practical implications of ECtHR case law for national legal frameworks and clinical practice.
The event contributed to strengthening interdisciplinary dialogue between law, ethics, and biomedicine and naturally aligned with the objectives of the ART – Future of Assisted Reproduction project (Strategy AV21), which promotes a comprehensive approach to current challenges in assisted reproduction.
