Pavel Hozák
Prof. RNDr. Pavel Hozák, DrSc. is a molecular and cell biologist specializing in nuclear architecture, regulation of gene expression, and nuclear roles of phosphoinositides and cytoskeletal proteins. After several international research stays, including six years at Oxford University in England, he has led his own research group since 1995. Since 2006, he has been the head of the Laboratory of Biology of the Cell Nucleus at the Institute of Molecular Genetics. In 2007, he was appointed Professor at the Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, and since 2012 he has served as Director of Czech-BioImaging – the National Research Infrastructure for Biological and Medical Imaging. He actively holds important leadership roles in European and international scientific societies.
Our team studies functional nuclear subcompartments associated with key cellular processes such as gene expression regulation. Using advanced light and electron microscopy, combined with biochemistry, molecular biology, and artificial intelligence, we aim to describe nuclear architecture in relation to nuclear lipids, actin, and actin-binding proteins.
Within the proposed ART project, our department contributes to the development of advanced software tools for monitoring the development of mammalian oocytes and embryos across species. These tools will predict the quality of oocytes and embryos based on automated detection of selected parameters. The outcome will be an improved process for selecting embryos suitable for transfer and a higher success rate of assisted reproduction procedures, including in vitro maturation of human oocytes and the use of cryopreserved oocytes and embryos.
