Michal Kubelka

Ing. Michal Kubelka, CSc. finished his PhD. studies in CAS in 1990. After several scientific engangments abroad – Paris (University of Paris VI-Jussieu), Lyon (Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon) and Cambridge (The Babraham Institute, University of Cambridge) returned to the Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics CAS, (IAPG) where he is active up to now. He played an important role in obtaing several big projects for IAPG funded by EU Structural Funds. He lead successively Laboratory of Physiology of Reproduction and then Laboratory of biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Germ Cells. In the years 2014-2017 he was in position of vice-director of IAPG for science, and since 2017 he acts as director of IAPG.

During his entire research career he is interested in the research of mammalian germ cells, the oocytes, and early embryos. His research is directed to the biochemical regulation of mammalian oocyte meiotic maturation, earlier his studies were directed to changes in important M-phase kinase actvities, more recently (within the last 7-8 years) to maping of translational patterns in oocytes using the method of polysome profiling followed by NGS sequencing, focusing on unveiling possible reproductive disorders after maternal aging or, also on uncovering the possible differences in translatome between oocytes and embryos cultured in vitro vs. those obtained in vivo. The results of these studies obtained using animal models can also have impact on human reproductive medicine and can be beneficial for the development of new methods or approaches in the field of human assisted reproduction.
